Still No Quarantine Exemption for Pre-Travel COVID Testing For Kauai

Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami announced on Friday that the governor is reducing the length of the Hawaii quarantine from 14 days down to 10 days.

For all of the Hawaiian islands EXCEPT Kauai, travelers are able to take a COVID-19 test 3 days prior to departure, and if they get a negative result before flying, then they are not required to quarantine.

For the island of Kauai, there is presently no way to test out of quarantine by taking a pre-travel COVID test.  All arrivals to Kauai must quarantine.  The length of the quarantine is 10 days.  Reports are that the governor will make this change retroactive, so that any visitor or returning resident who came in to Kauai on December 7 or later will only need to quarantine for 10 days.

Mayor Kawakami has provided no projected timeline as to how long our island will remain opted out of the pre-arrival testing program, the return to mandatory quarantine has been defined only as "temporary".
