Highway from Princeville to Hanalei Under Construction

What Times Can You Use the Highway To Hanalei?

Extremely heavy rainfall on March 9 resulted in a mud slide that covered a portion of the Kuhio Highway between Princeville and Hanalei.  County road crews worked around the clock to restore road access within a matter of days, but the road and the slope above the road are still under repair.  Presently, one lane is open.  Traffic in both directions must share that lane during certain set hours each day.  The schedule is below.  In a nutshell, the road opens early in the morning, briefly during mid-day, and through the evening hours.  Cars convoy through in alternating directions, with a pilot car in the lead.  If you're planning to visit Hanalei, Haena, Wainiha, or Ke'e Beach and the Kalalau Trail, be sure to check the schedule and plan your trip accordingly.
