Driving Directions

Approximate drive time is 1 hour 20 minutes.

Leaving the airport, turn right at the intersection onto Kapule Highway 51, which merges into Kuhio Highway 56 heading north. Stay on this road all the way until you arrive at the entrance to Hanalei Colony Resort. The resort is located five miles past Hanalei. Look for the Hanalei Colony Resort sign on the right about one mile after the double one-lane bridges. The physical address is 5-7130 Kuhio Highway. You will be on the top floor of building C in #C-4.

There are several one lane bridges along your route. Local custom is 5-7 cars at a time cross the bridge, then traffic in the other direction gets a turn.

During heavy rains the bridge over the Hanalei river may close. You can call KPD at 808-241-1725 to check on the status of the bridge.

Operating Your Lockbox

Push down the buttons corresponding to the numerical code you were provided in your check-in instructions.

If you make a mistake, slide the “clear” button (the bottom row center button) and release, then begin again.

Once you have correctly entered the numbers, pull down on the top silver button to open the lockbox. The face will swing down on its hinge.

Once you have opened the door, please immediately replace the key in the lockbox so you do not risk losing it or locking it inside the unit. There are two keys inside on yellow and orange floating keychains that you can carry with you and use during your stay.

The lock may re-engage while you are removing the key. If that happens, you will need to repeat the sequence above for opening the lockbox, then shut the cover while holding the “open” button .

Your lockbox may not look exactly like this, but it will operate in the same manner.

NOTE: We highly recommend keeping one key in the lockbox AT ALL TIMES to prevent lock-outs. When you check out, a key must be placed back in the lockbox. If you lock the key inside the unit when you check out, instead of placing it in the lockbox, a $100 lock-out fee will be charged to you.

Check-In & Check-Out
We appreciate your respecting our posted arrival time of 3pm (no earlier!) and departure time of 10am (no later!). Both unauthorized early check-in and unauthorized late check-out may be subject to a fine of $50 per hour.

About Your Property
- The code to enter the swimming pool area is C1784. The pool, jacuzzi, and gas barbecue grills are all located inside the gated pool area
- A guest laundry room with coin operated washers and dryers is inside the two-story building next to the pool. The cost is $2.50 per load for the washers and $2.50 per load for the dryers. You can buy quarters in the office.
- When you check in to the resort, you’ll need to stop in at the office to register your vehicle and provide an emergency contact phone number. If you arrive after normal business hours, it’s perfectly fine to wait until the next day to check-in with the resort.
- Please contact Kauai Kahuna at (833) 465-2824 if you have any issues. Should you need to reach the complex resident manager, Lehua, her number is (808) 720-0558. (Note that any maintenance needs should be reported to Kauai Kahuna, not to the resident manager.)
- The resort shuttle is unfortunately not available to guests in privately managed units. Your unit is privately managed. However, the north shore shuttle stops at the resort and you can purchase a ticket in advance online if you’d like to ride. Visit gohaena.com for more information and to purchase tickets.
- If you’d like us to stock the fridge for you before you arrive, we’re happy to shop for you at the nearby Wainiha Country Store and have supplies in the apartment when you arrive. There’s a $75 service fee (plus the cost of groceries, wine, etc). Contact us 3 or 4 days ahead with your shopping list.
- Most plumbing on Kauai is very delicate. Please do not flush any wipes (even if they say flushable) or feminine hygiene products down the toilet. Please ONLY flush toilet paper.
- Please don’t hang beach towels , clothing, etc from the lanai railings. It’s against the complex rules.
- Please respect the housekeeper back-up inventory stored in the plastic bins. These are items the housekeeper will need in preparing the apartment for the next guest. If the bins are opened and items are removed, there will be additional laundry charges of $25 per load. There are guest laundry facilities by the pool for you to use, but there are no laundry facilities for our housekeepers – they have to take everything with them to wash, so please be sensitive to the time and effort that involves and don’t use their back-up inventory.
- No smoking is permitted inside or on the lanai. A minimum $250 charge will apply for violating this rule.
- Please remove your shoes before entering, it’s Hawaiian custom and protects our floors.
- Trash should be removed daily to the trashcans outside, to avoid attracting pests.
- Please close all windows when you go out, sudden rain squalls can cause damage if left open.
- Kauai is a lush and verdant tropical environment. Please be aware that geckos and bugs are a normal and expected part of this environment and occasionally will make their way inside your rental. Because we have regular pest control service, you may see a dead or dying bug inside, that means the pest control is working. Geckos are good luck and eat insects, we ask if you should find a gecko inside that you capture it in a cup and deposit it outside, please try not to harm it.

Hanalei Colony Resort House Rules
- Register your vehicle with the front desk upon arrival
- Please respect complex quiet hours from 10pm to 8am. This includes NOT conversing outdoors on the lanai, or playing any amplified sound device such as televisions or stereos during quiet hours. If you’re watching Netflix on your computer, or listening to your Spotify on the phone, please use headphones/earbuds after 10pm.
- No smoking is permitted inside the unit or on the lanai. If you wish to smoke, please step out onto the beach or into the parking area
- Charcoal grills (with charcoal provided) are located in the barbecue area by buildings D and E. No barbecue use is permitted outside of these designated areas
- Do not hang items over the lanai railings. Do not sweep (or throw) items off the lanai.
- Note that because you have booked your Hanalei Colony Resort unit through the owner’s property manager (and not directly through the resort) you will not be able to utilize the airport shuttle, concierge desk, games/newspapers/other amenities provided in the office, laundry window, twice weekly maid service, weekly Mai Tai party, or continental breakfast.
- Please report any maintenance problems to the property manager (Kauai Kahuna Vacation Rentals), as the onsite staff does not maintain the inside of the individual condos.

Check-Out Procedure
- Please put pool keys back where you found them. (We photograph these items before arrival and charge for replacement if they are missing at check-out.)
- Please wash all dishes.
- Remove trash to the dumpster.
- Please turn off all lights, fans, televisions, coffee maker, etc.
- Close and lock all windows and doors.
- Please check carefully for your personal possessions. Kauai Kahuna is not responsible for lost/forgotten items.

You can also access wifi by logging on to the complex wide network, designated by building and HCR (i.e. HCR E, HCR I, etc), using the password menehune (no spaces, all lowercase). You may find that your building’s wifi signal is weaker than another if you’re at the beach or just walking around, so feel free to log on to whichever signal is the strongest, they all use the same password.

We want you to have a pleasant and relaxing visit. While you are our guest, we ask that you observe the following items in order to make your stay more enjoyable. Please remember that your rental property is privately owned, it is someone’s second home, so please treat it with the same respect you would show as an invited guest.
- Please leave the refrigerator and freezer controls on medium setting. When set colder, the machine freezes up and will shut down, possibly causing damage, and certainly causing inconvenience as it will need to be unplugged and left turned off for 24 hours.
- The tropical climate can invite unwanted insects. Our units are sprayed by a professional pest control regularly, but you can help by being careful not to leave food on the counters overnight. Wash/rinse dishes and run the disposal often and empty the garbage each evening, if possible. Little ants have their origin in the soil around the building. If you see ants, let us know so that we can alert the resident manager.
- Sunscreen lotions that contain PABA can permanently stain upholstery and bedspreads, as well as harm our reefs. We recommend you use only reef-safe sunscreen (available widely on island) and ask that you do not apply these lotions while inside the condo and rinse them off upon returning and before sitting on the furniture or bedspreads.
- Please be considerate of your neighbors. Kauai is a tranquil, quiet spot, sought out by our guests as a place for a well-needed rest from their busy and demanding jobs. After 10:00 pm, no unnecessary noise that would interfere with the comfort or convenience of others, please. If you are traveling with children, you are responsible for their behavior and actions. The stairways and walkways are not suitable play areas.
- In the course of cleaning, the elements on the stove may become disconnected. You will notice this when a burner fails to heat. Please try gently pushing the element into the receptacle to see if that fixes the problem.
- Kauai’s plumbing is not like the plumbing on the mainland. Condominium garbage disposals are not intended for shrimp tails, coconut shells, banana peels pineapple, citrus rinds, celery, etc. These will damage and/or clog the disposal. Please dispose of all food waste in the trash and use the disposal only for clearing the drain of small food scraps rinsed from already-scraped plates.
- Basic housekeeping service consists of the unit being ready for your arrival and cleaned when you leave. Interim maid service can be arranged, at additional cost. Supplies that you find within the unit are meant as a “starter set” for you. This will include a roll of toilet paper plus a spare for each bathroom, a bar soap for each bathroom, a roll of paper towels and a clean sponge for the kitchen, a small bottle of dish soap, and several spare kitchen trash bags. If you need to replenish toilet tissue, soap, etc., then it is up to you to purchase these items at the grocery store. Look under the vanity for additional toilet paper.
- When preparing to leave, we would appreciate it if you would check to see that the lights and appliances are turned off and that doors and windows are closed. Please remove all garbage when you go, and leave dishes clean, to help us keep pests like ants from finding their way in. If you are staying in a lockbox unit, please make sure you
- If you damage something in the condo, or notice something damaged upon arrival, please let us know!
- Unreported lost and/or damaged items are subject to replacement charges. This includes beach towels, please don’t forget to take them out of your rental car!
